Manteca dominates in opener of Buff Cup

Host Manteca High opened the Buff Cup Tournament Friday by trouncing Pacheco Friday, 9-0.
Junior Madison Burch paved the way by scoring three times, including two in the first half. Caitlin McVeigh helped out with a pair of assists while Kaitlynn Funsch added a goal and an assist.
The Buffaloes (3-1-1) took a 4-0 first-half lead, with Jocelyn Reyes and Isabel Quinones scoring the other two goals.
They poured it on in the second half with five more – Burch, Funsch, Elena Montano, Alexa Mayen and Rosa Becerra all scored. Kaley Miller and Carolyn Morrish had an assist each.
Manteca will take on the winner of the Edison-Gustine game at 8 a.m. today at Guss Schmiedt Field.

EU 0 (4-3 shootout)
The East Union Lancers (3-3) lost in a shootout to Inderkum of Sacramento in the first round of the Buff Cup.
The game was scoreless after regulation followed by the overtime.
The Lancers will play the loser of Tracy-Riverbank at 9:30 a.m. today at the MHS practice field.

Sierra 8, Patterson 0
Sophomore Jadyn Shinn scored twice and added an assist to lead the Timberwolves to the semifinals of the Vern Gebhardt Cup.
Sierra (7-1) will play at 9:30 a.m. today at Daniel Teicheira Stadium.
After opening with a lopsided win over Patterson, the Timberwolves kept the momentum going in second game Friday to Bradshaw Christian, doing most of the damage in the first half.
Sierra did all the scoring while maintaining the shutout over Bradshaw Christian.
Jasmine Loaiza and Yasmin Ballew also chipped in with goals in that second game.
