The Manteca Buffaloes did their part in setting up a showdown later in the week with Sierra High, destroying the Weston Ranch Cougars 9-0 Tuesday in Valley Oak League action.
The Buffaloes (9-0, 12-2 overall) got tremendous play from No. 1 singles player Rosa Zou. Zou reeled off a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win over her opponent to set the tone for Manteca. Teammate Adaeze Nkwocha was as impressive, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 too.
Both Weley Lin (6-1, 6-2) and Jenny Yu (6-2, 6-2) earned in singles wins as well.
Manteca’s doubles tandems were also perfect in the match, getting a 6-0, 6-0 win from Kaile Hunt and Liz Diaz, while Elizabeth Tolber and Katie Inderbitzin earned a victory in the only match to be decided in a tie breaker, winning 6-0, 2-6 and 10-1. Julie Saling and Sealy Madams were victorious in a 6-0, 6-1 win.
The Buffaloes will meet up with Sierra Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at home.
Sierra 9, Sonora 0
With the VOL schedule winding down, Sierra assured itself another worthwhile shot at the undefeated Manteca Buffaloes with a one-sided victory over the Sonora Wildcats Tuesday.
Vannida Nguyen was perfect again with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Stephanie Hart, while teammates Naomi Nunis (6-1, 6-0), Anna Cardenas (6-2, 6-1), Annie Banks (6-4, 6-2) and Rosie Reynolds (6-1, 6-0) all earned victories in singles.
Brenda Padilla and Emma Hunter teamed up for a 6-2, 6-2 doubles win, and Barbara Baxter and Kelsey Wells won 6-1, 6-1. Liana Bassett and Simran Thind earned a disqualification win.
Sierra will travel across town Thursday in hopes of handing the undefeated Manteca Buffaloes their first loss of the VOL season.
Matches are set to begin at 3 p.m.
