Manteca still unbeaten in VOL after topping EU

The Manteca High improved to 4-0 in Valley Oak League play Thursday with a 8-1 victory over rival East Union.

Fuko Inoue, the Lancers’ No. 1 singles player, posted the only win for her team, beating Taylor Corona in a tough two-set battle, 7-6 (7-2 tiebreaker), 6-2.

The Buffaloes (6-1 overall) took care of the rest, with No. 2 singles Koryn Menasco defeating Natalie Karim, 6-1, 6-2.

Julie Tang stopped East Union’s No. 3 player in two sets, 6-1, 6-0.

Stephanie Mercado and Glandis Sandoval blanked Mandi Weberg and Angelica Ortiz, the Lancers’ No. 4 and No. 5 players, respectively.

Makenna Condit, Manteca’s No. 6 player, edged Cynthia Civil, 6-4, 6-3.

The Buffaloes’ top doubles team of Ravneet Dhillon and Navina Mann handled Marilyn Civil and Hailey Gosney in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.

Julianne Eavenson and Noeli Mercado got the better of East Union’s No. 2 team, Nicole Meza and Leighani Sablan, 6-2, 6-1.

Manteca’s No. 3 team of Monica Lozano and Prerna Singh rolled past Samantha Velasquez and Margarita Navarette, 6-2, 6-1.

Lathrop 1

Eden Baca posted the only win for the Spartans at Oakdale.

The No. 4 singles player needed two hard-fought sets to topple Haley Takaki, 6-3, 7-5.

Lathrop played the Mustangs earlier this month, losing 9-0.

Oakdale’s No. 1 single Tay Talomentes rolled past the Spartans’ Kimberly Victoria, 6-1, 6-0.

Carly Newbill won in two sets, stopping Lathrop’s No. 2 singles player Kimberly Victoria (6-0, 6-3), Danika Brown of Oakdale blanked Beatrice Vilches (6-0, 6-0), Maddie Brewer defeated the Spartans’ Tala Alkhatib (6-2, 6-1) and Kendall Kiely stopped Lathrop’s No. 6 singles Lena Alkhatib (6-1, 6-1).

In doubles, Taryn Lane and Shannen Yang of Oakdale defeated Lathrop’s top pair of Bernice Vilches and Maya Ortiz (6-2, 6-2), McKenzie Brown and Lijian Bacub topped the Spartans’ No. 2 pair of Marissa Briseno and Leslie Barraza (6-3, 6-), and Breanna Morgan and Tayla Barry of the Mustangs got the better of Anandeep Dhaliwal and Kimberly Bareng (6-1, 6-0).
