Ripon Christian built a minimal lead after the first quarter of play and continued to add to it for three quarters, blasting host Le Grand High 52-28 Thursday in Southern League play.
Mikayla Manus stepped into the prominent role for the Knights, leading the team by dishing out a game-high 11 assists while guiding the Knights’ offense.
“She was the one who really picked us up,” Ripon Christian head coach Ed Mulder said. “We had a sluggish first half and she carries us.”
Mikaela Alger went off for 16 points and 19 rebounds for a double-double, while Raeann DeRousse chipped in with eight points.
Ripon Christian (9-1 SL, 16-5) will be back on the court Monday when they meet up with the Denair Coyotes.
Ripon (7-1 TVL, 18-4 overall) was led by Rachel Rodriguez’ 14 points, followed by Katherine Ratto’s 10 points. Ripon standout Kendra Contente chipped in nine in the blowout win.
Each player on the Indians’ squad tallied at least a point. Ripon pushed things out of reach in a hurry, opening the contest on an unfathomable 43-5 run. The Indians’ defense held Escalon (0-8, 5-17) to less than five points in each of the four quarters. Ripon has held its opponents in single digits in 10 of the past 12 quarters of action.
The Indians will play host to the Hughson Huskies Monday looking to extend their recent winning streak to five games.
