Miramontes leads Buffs over Lathrop

Field issues at Lathrop High forced the Manteca Buffaloes to host their final Valley Oak league meeting with the Spartans and hitting first had no ill effects on the Buffaloes, as they remained unblemished after their first league series with a 12-1 win Wednesday.

Manteca (2-0 VOL, 4-4-1 overall) rode a sterling effort from starting pitcher Matt Barber who held the Spartans to just two hits in the mercy-rule shortened affair. Barber gave up the one earned run and struck out five in five innings of work.

Sophomore Daniel Miramontes had a good day at the plate, smashing a 2-run home run and a pair of doubles during his 3 for 4 afternoon. Miramontes paced the Buffaloes with five RBIs, while Gabe Rellamas went 2 for 3 from the leadoff spot, stroking a triple and scoring three times.

C.J. Rivas finished 2 for 4 with a run and a RBI, and Kevin Peck was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

Lathrop (0-2, 2-4) was only able to muster three hits, with Rene Zuniga, Gabe Castellanos and Alfonso Gonzales all getting knocks. Zuniga finished 1 for 2 with a double.

The Spartans will try to get on track with a win in Ceres Tuesday when they take on the Bulldogs and Manteca will try and make it three straight when they travel cross-town to meet up with the East Union Lancers.
