Ripon got its revenge against neighboring rival Ripon Christian on Saturday, edging the Knights in the championship match of their own tournament, the Ripon Christian Soccer Classic, on Saturday.

After the two squads battled to a 1-1 draw, the Indians won the penalty-kick shootout, 5-4.

Ripon Christian previously got the better of them just last week, prevailing 1-0 during Hughson’s Husky Cup tournament. The rivals will get a chance to settle the score in a rubber match hosted by Ripon Christian (4-3) starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Noah Lehmann blasted in Ripon’s lone goal in regulation off a feed from Thomas Sidtikun. Johnathan Soto had six saves. In the shootout, Fedarico Entrada, Emmanuel Sanchez, Patrick Maragos, Jose Ochoa nailed their PK attempts. Soto blocked two of RC’s attempts while another ricocheted off the cross bar, allowing Lehmann to ice the win on the final kick.

The Indians kicked off the day with a 4-1 win over Denair. Maragos led the way with two goals and an assist. Ochoa added a goal and an assist, while Entrada chipped in a goal.

They then knocked off Forest Lake Christian (Auburn) 3-0, scoring all goals in the first half. Jared Lawlor, de la O and Lehmann accounted for the scoring.

Ripon Christian began the tournament with wins over Bradshaw Christian and Escalon. Additional information was not available as of press time.

Gregori Tournament

Both Lathrop (4-3-1) and Weston Ranch (5-2-2) were well tested in Modesto late last week.

Hairo Silva had the highlight of the weekend between the two teams, as he recorded a hat trick in Lathrop’s 3-1 victory over Hughson. The Spartans were shut out by their other opponents, Johansen (3-0) and Merced (6-0).

Kevin Medina accounted for two of the three goals scored by Weston Ranch over the two-day tourney. On Friday he scored the Cougars’ lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Atwater, which kept the sheets clean for the remainder of its tournament run. Medina also scored in the opening minute of Saturday’s 1-1 tie with Grace Davis.

Also Saturday was a preview of two contending teams in the Valley Oak League, as Weston Ranch and reigning champion Oakdale played to a 1-1 stalemate. Joseph Mayorca scored for Weston Ranch, while Oakdale’s David Serrano netted his off a penalty kick.
