Ripon off to solid start

Ripon High girls golf coach Eric Dambrosio was encouraged by what he saw from his young team in Tuesday’s Valley Foothill League North Division opener.

His Indians turned in a 203 against Modesto Christian’s 290 at Modesto Municipal Golf Course’s par-35 track.

Laura Williams was low medalist with a 12-over 47, and freshman Breeana Huckell finished with a 50. Taylor Enrique and Alex Gonzales each carded a 53, as all four Ripon players outscored Modesto Christian’s. Katie McCabe paced the Crusaders with a 60.

“I am happy with how our first match went,” Dambrosio said. “The girls have been working hard in practice. We still have room to improve.”

VOLLEYBALL

Ripon 3, Ripon Christian 0

Ripon won the annual rivalry match for a second straight year. Game scores were 26-24, 25-19, 25-10.

The outcome, however, does not count against records as it is part of the Sac-Joaquin Section’s Foundation Games. Proceeds from Foundation Games benefit the section’s A. Dale Lacky Scholarship and Women in Sports Conference.

Dani Erdelatz led Ripon Christian with 10 kills, 10 digs and a block. Elisabeth Regusci contributed 26 assists, 10 digs and two aces. Paige Vos added eight kills to the attack.
