ROUNDUP: EU moves closer to 1st flag football title after routing Raiders

East Union has separated itself from another contender in the quest for its first Valley Oak League flag football championship.

The Lancers took care of visiting Central Catholic 32-13 Thursday at Dino Cunial Stadium, completing a season sweep of the Raiders with three games remaining.

Quarterback Juliana Gaspar led them with 252 yards and five touchdowns on 26-of-37 passing, adding seven rushes for 75 yards.

Larissa Harries (eight receptions, 57 yards) was on the receiving end of two of those touchdowns, while Gwen Baker, Caliyah Lopez and Vanessa Velazquez contributed one TD catch apiece.

Alexa Bretao and Avina Harrington each had an interception to highlight the defense.

East Union heads to Mountain House next Tuesday before ending the regular season with two games against rival Manteca (6-2, 11-6), which still has a shot at the title.


GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Lathrop 3, Ceres 0

The Spartans (10-0, 14-5 overall) continued their march toward a second consecutive Western Athletic Conference championship after sweeping Ceres (6-4, 7-7) at home Wednesday, 25-15, 25-16, 25-20.

Siliana Fa’ataualofa (two aces, five digs), Erin Chunn (five digs, two assists) and Shakara Porter powered the balanced attack with 10, eight and six kills, respectively. Kira Davis chipped in with three.

Setter Ayden Petroff finished with 27 assists to go with six aces and five digs. Jadore Dixon paced the defense with six digs, while Justine Mabutas had seven digs and two assists.


Oakdale 3, East Union 0

East Union (2-7, 7-18 overall) could not get untracked against the Valley Oak League’s top squad Thursday, as the visiting Mustangs (8-1, 10-10) rolled, 25-14, 25-9, 25-16.

Lucija Dayeh tallied three kills, two blocks and two digs for the Lancers. Lily Grove had five service points, four assists and two digs. Jillian Ramirez turned in four points, three aces and two digs.


GIRLS GOLF

Ripon 157, Escalon 222

Brynn Daley carded a 5-over-par 36 to lead the Indians (7-2) to the Trans Valley League win.

Cameron Seefeldt contributed a 38, Grace Ortmann a 39 and Cailyn Young a 48.


Livingston 315, Lathrop 329

Joyce Birando earned low-medalist honors with a 52 to lead Livingston to the WAC victory at Manteca Park Golf Course.

Ashley Abon paced Lathrop with a 53. Kate Albisu added a 58, Kriselle Matela a 64 and Sneha Masih and Elyanna Fernandez each netted a 77.


JV girls volleyball

Lathrop 2, Ceres 0

The Spartans took care of business, 25-4, 25-16.

Irhsbir Bisla anchored Lathrop with all-around play, amassing five aces, five kills, two blocks and two digs.

Andrea Lemus pitched in four kills and three digs. Audrina Fisher and Cassidy Fa’ali’i (three assists, two digs) added three kills apiece.

Alexza Bringas dished out 12 assists, and Lilyana Murillo picked up seven digs.


Frosh girls volleyball

Oakdale 2, East Union 0

The Lancers came up short, 14-25, 20-25.

Addie Souza stood out for EU with four kills, four service points and two digs. Sophia Quezada tallied three assists and two kills.


Lathrop 2, Ceres 0

Juliet Tara registered 14 assists and four aces, as the Spartans won handily, 25-14, 25-13.

Lanayah Denson fired six kills to head the attack. Ne’myah Belion contributed four kills and four aces, and Zakia Booker chipped in three kills and two aces.

Ariannah Sheel and Elia Dasalla led the back row with seven and four digs, respectively.
