East Union's boys cross country team wrapped up its sprint of a season Wednesday with a dominant 15-50 win at Escalon.
The Lancers secured a 6-0 record in the Valley Oak League and look forward to defending their Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championship next fall. Before that is the track and field season, which begins next week.
Johnny Sandoval spearheaded East Union's 1-7 finish, clocking in at 17 minutes, 32 seconds while narrowly beating out Cooper Freeman. Following suit were Alex Cuevas (17:42), Evan Cooper (17:52), Maury Ortiz (17:57), Abel Zuniga (18:00) and Ruben Martinez (18:27).
Dillan Booth placed eighth overall in 20:03 for Escalon.
GIRLS GOLF
Ripon 188, Oakdale 192
The Indians quickly got over their first loss of the season with their bounce-back triumph over the reigning VOL champion Mustangs at Jack Tone Golf Course.
Gabbi Ilardi led the way with a 1-over 32. Tyla Branham (36), Zoe Bremer (39), Katie Martin (40) and Anna DiGuilio (41) backed up their top player with solid rounds.
“I thought the girls would be a little dejected after our one-shot loss to Escalon (on Tuesday), but they were in a good, positive mood. They played with purpose and played smart golf.”
BOYS TENNIS
Sierra 9, East Union 0
Quentin Banks topped Matthew Trinidad 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles during the make-up match at East Union.
Also winning for Sierra were Jason Machado (6-2, 6-1), David Martin Jr. (6-3, 6-3), Zach Van Zwaluwenburg (6-1, 6-0), David Nasser (6-3, 6-1), Aaron Crawford/Hari Chandran (6-0, 6-3) and Rohin Sandhu/David Martin III (6-1, 6-0).
East Union forfeited two matches.
BOYS GOLF
Lathrop vs. Patterson
Neither squad had the minimum five players to produce an official score at Manteca Park Golf Course on Tuesday.
Salvador Reyes paced the host Spartans with a 60 and followed by John Wall Jr. (61), Veeon Taito (63) and Matthew Hammond (72). Patterson's Isaac Martikke was low medalist with a 47.
