ROUNDUP: Lathrop in reach of 1st girls volleyball title

LATHROP — History will have to be made on the road.
Lathrop’s girls volleyball team is on the cusp of garnering its first league championship and took a step closer to the Western Athletic Conference title on Thursday with their 25-13, 15-15, 25-17 sweep of Grace Davis.
It’s the final regular-season home match for the Spartans (11-0 WAC, 16-2 overall), who have a two-match lead over second-place Beyer with three to go. They head to Johansen next Tuesday.
Lathrop honored seniors Jahsita Fa’ali’i, Jennifer Santillan, Rylie Asuncion and Alexiea Chalender.
Fa’ali’i, the reigning All-WAC Offensive Player of the Year,  dazzled the home crowd with 19 kills, 12 aces and seven digs. Setter Santillan delivered 32 assists. Sydney Hanks and Ke’Mya Barnett contributed five kills apiece, with Barnett adding four aces. Krystle Sakay collected 20 digs and three kills, while Hailey Hunter had 10 digs and two aces.
The Spartans are on pace to claim outright championships at all levels, as the junior varsity and freshman squads are also undefeated in WAC play.

Central Catholic 3, Manteca 0
Visiting Central Catholic (8-0 Valley Oak League, 16-7 overall) scored seven unanswered points to take the opening game, setting the tone for a 25-16, 25-19, 25-17 win at Winter Gym.
“We were making too many untimely errors,” Manteca coach Kevin Bolding said. “We battled with them but only up to a point.”
Julia Moreno paced the Buffaloes (6-3, 10-5) led the Buffaloes with six kills, while Camrenne Genilla and Karlie Spohn pitched in five apiece. Therese Ferral tallied 19 assists, and Abbey Kadillak had 13 digs. Abby Castillon racked up 11 kills and 11 digs for Central Catholic.

Ripon Christian 3, Mariposa 0
RIPON — The Knights (10-0, 15-3) made quick work of Mariposa with their 25-14, 25-9, 25-17 win, setting up a first-place Southern League showdown. They travel to second-place Le Grand next Tuesday.
Emily Van Groningen prepared for the big match by clobbering 12 kills on Thursday. Morgan Van Elderen contributed seven kills and 13 assists, while Ariel Vander Woude finished with five and 14. Alexis Hilvers added two kills and four blocks.

Ripon 165, Amador 275

IONE — Gabbi Ilardi dropped a birdie chip in the ninth hole to share low-round honors with teammate Zoe Bremer at Castle Oaks Golf Course. They each finished 3-over 39.
Four-year players Kassidy Isham (46), Bianca Toledo (44) and Myra Toledo (43) played their final regular-season match for Ripon (16-0), which will look to secure sole possession of the Valley Foothill League North Division title in the league finale next Monday at Micke Grove Golf Links.

LATHROP — Marijane Bergren struck for two goals, and Sophomoa Serrano had one to lead scoring for the Spartans.

JV volleyball
Manteca 2, Central Catholic 0

Unbeaten Manteca (9-0, 19-0 overall) is guaranteed at least a share of the VOL championship following its 25-14, 25-12 victory.
Kim Yu led the attack with eight kills. Ariana Lowery picked up 10 digs while serving 15 points and five aces. Arielle Chandler chimed in with nine assists and four kills. Isabella Pires had six assists and two kills.
Nadia Kolding spiked five kills for the Raiders, and Emilia Roberts collected six digs.

Lathrop 2, Grace Davis 0
Lylliana Avila flirted with a triple-double with her seven kills, eight aces and nine digs in Lathrop’s 25-13, 25-19 sweep.
LaNicia Ellis added five kills to the attack, while Camila De La Garza handed out 12 assists.

Frosh volleyball
Manteca 2, Central Catholic 0

The Buffaloes rolled to a 25-10, 25-14 victory.
Top contributors included Payton Mahoney (five kills, two blocks, two aces), Jessica Almeida (10 service points, three aces, five assists), Rayana Ladd (seven points, two kills), Joelyianna Navarro (two aces, two kills) and Aiiko Oda (three blocks).
Central Catholic was paced by Allison Davis’ three aces and Sydney Yonkers three blocks.

Lathrop 2, Grace Davis 0
Lathrop cruised to a 25-12, 25-10 win to close in on a WAC title.
Alaba Olaleye (five kills), Alondra Basulto (five aces) and Alejandra Vazquez (eight assists) led the way.
