ROUNDUP: Ripon completes perfect TVL boys golf championship run

Ripon golfers Marcus Jose Atienza, Ty Herrin, Richie Hughes, Jeremie Little, Vincent Uecker and William Peters with their first-place medals after the Trans-Valley League final Monday at Pine Mountain Lake Golf Course.

 Ripon completed its season sweep of Trans-Valley League tournaments on Monday, winning the final behind low medalist Vince Uecker at Pine Mountain Lake Golf Course in Groveland.

Uecker led the champion Indians with a 3-over 73. Ripon totaled a team score of 391. Hughson was the runner-up with a 456. Livingston (484) and Escalon (557) followed.

Jeremie Little contributed a 75 for Ripon. Richie Hughes added a 79, Marcus Jose Atienza an 80 and Ty Herrin an 84.William Peters had the throw-out score of 85.

Up next is the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V Tournament at Greenhorn Creek Resort on Monday, May 6.


Valley Oak League

Sierra placed second in the VOL final at Micke Grove Golf Links but came up short of qualifying for the SJS Division III Tournament.

League champion Oakdale and Central Catholic advance, based on their season-long success.

Nolan Harris and Estuardo Duque, both of Oakdale, were co-medalists (72) and wound up as co-MVPs for the season.

Sierra’s Jordenn Llamas Mojarro (84), East Union’s Michael Pires (89) and Manteca’s Ethan Freitas (85) are among the six individual qualifiers for the SJS D-III tourney at The Golf Club at Copper Valley on May 6.

Oakdale won the finale with a 384. Sierra and Kimball finished with matching 491 scores, but the former won the tiebreaker (lower throw-out score).

Cody Camarena (99), Carson Murray (98), Jake Llamas Mojarro (101) and Jace Neto (109) were among Sierra’s scorers.

Central Catholic (505) took fourth with East Union (520) and Manteca (532) rounding out the field.

East Union scorers included Tiago Chadinha (102), Kyle Van Arsdell (109), Kaiden Vautour (116), Xavier Guerrero (104). Cooper Chamberlain (93), Gavin Goodwin (111), Gael Juarez (118) and Alijah Hawkins (125) capped Manteca’s scoring.


BASEBALL

Los Banos 9, Lathrop 2

Lathrop (4-9, 9-15 overall) is ending its Western Athletic Conference campaign against two teams vying for the championship.

After getting swept by Mountain House last week, the Spartans started their final two-game set of the year on the road.

Adrian Zuniga went 2 for 4 and plated both of Lathrop’s runs. Mathew Rankin was 2 for 2 with an RBI.

Sophomore Julian Cazares was the winning pitcher for Los Banos (11-2, 15-6), striking out 12 in six innings. He also drove in a pair of runs.

Lathrop hosts the regular-season finale on Wednesday.
