ROUNDUP: Torres tames Tigers as MHS softball moves to 6-0

Sophomores Nayellys Torres and Grace Rosas combined for a two-hitter on Wednesday, and Manteca swatted 13 hits on the way to an 11-1 five-inning drubbing of Tokay at Arnaiz Stadium in Stockton.

The Buffaloes are now 6-0 to start the season.

Torres was the winning pitcher and standout hitter on Wednesday. She logged four innings, giving up an unearned run and one hit while firing nine strikeouts. Rosas faced four batters and fanned one in the fifth.

At the plate, Torres went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs. Jessica Almeida (double, three runs, RBI), Elon James (two runs, two RBIs) and Madisyn Bridewell (double, two RBIs) each finished 2 for 4.

 

BASEBALL

Lathrop 10, Millennium 9

Lathrop (2-2) held off a late rally from the visiting Falcons (2-3) from Tracy before the game was called to darkness.

The Spartans led 10-5 after four innings and went through four pitchers who combined to give up eight hits and eight walks.

Jasper Tover led the offense, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs and three steals. Jeremiah Estante went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Omare Cross hit 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Cross also had a defensive highlight in the outfield with a diving catch. Nathan Martinez, Luis Hernandez and Jeremy Julien each contributed an RBI.

Xavier Moore went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs for Millennium.

 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Lathrop 3, Ceres 0

Christian Green produced 13 kills and 10 aces to help Lathrop (2-0, 6-0 overall) secure a 25-14, 25-18, 25-9 Western Athletic Conference win on the road.

Arman John contributed with 10 kills. Christian Buerster and Jerico Santillan added four kills apiece. Tory Sumbler tallied 29 assists, three aces, five digs and two blocks. Diego Sanchez collected 12 digs.

 

JV softball

Lathrop 19, Tracy 11

Anna Velasquez went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs and was the winning pitcher for the Spartans. She struck out six and went the distance from the circle. The defense backed her with two double plays.

Other standout hitters: Allana Lewis (3-for-4, double, three RBIs), Julissa Aguilar (2-for-3, RBI), Giselle Mejia (2-for-4, RBI), Morgan Penko (2-for-2, double, RBI) and Pia Calub (2-for-2, RBI).

 

JV boys volleyball

Lathrop 2, Ceres 0

The Spartans swept, 25-12, 25-18.

Caiden Wisnieski led the way with four kills and two aces. Alexander Vere had three aces and three digs. Charles Reyes dished out eight assists. Brandon Sanchez and Persius Fa’ali’i each picked up five digs. Edmund Balugo chipped in three digs and two aces.
