ROUNDUP: VOL-leading Manteca shuts out EU in girls tennis

The Manteca girls tennis team wrapped up the first half of its Valley Oak League schedule Tuesday at East Union, cruising to a 9-0 victory while dropping only six games along the way.

The Buffaloes are 5-0 at the midway point, and five of their six singles players are undefeated.

No. 1 singles player Katie Kim, No. 3 Emma Ngo, No. 4 Shreya Raman and No. 5 Jenna Poncini each won, 6-0, 6-0. Chloe Marquis prevailed 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, and No. 6 Christina Nguyen was a 6-0, 6-2 victor.

Eva Pasion and Alayna Bottoms rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 1 doubles match. The No. 2 pair of Dixsha Singh and Parm Toor won 6-1, 6-0, and Guadalupe Mercado and Michailla Springs coasted, 6-0, 6-1.

Sierra 22, Kimball 8

Mitchell Van Zwaluwenburg notched nine goals, and Erfan Ballew added six in the VOL blowout.

Lauren Ellis contributed three goals, Bayan Ballew scored two and Sammy Perez and Gabriel Monasterio chipped in one apiece.

 

Los Banos 17, Lathrop 8

Connor Giovannoni accounted for five of Lathrop’s goals in the Western Athletic Conference match.

Christian Buerster added two goals, and Pyro Coates contributed with his first tally of the season. Goalie Gustavo Landa Betancourt collected 11 saves.

 

Ripon 12, Central Catholic 3

McKeane Beier netted four goals and three assists for Ripon, and Ryan Bell had three goals and three assists.

Goalie Benny Rogers came up with 10 blocks and four steals. Ben Svoboda dished out five assists to go with two steals and a goal. Nathan Selna (assist, two steals) scored twice, while Brody Biedermann (two assists, steal) and Teo West (assist, steal) had one each.

Los Banos 17, Lathrop 8

The Spartans were paced by Hannah Stewart’s four goals in the defeat. Elizabeth Rodriguez and Kalani Soriano contributed two apiece.

 

GIRLS GOLF

Ripon 180, Summerville 278

Gabbi Ilardi and Katie Martin both shot 4-over 40 to lead the Indians to the Valley Foothill League North and Division win at Teleli Golf Course in Sonora.
