SOCCER: Ripon girls rout Amador in SJS final rematch

RIPON — In a rematch of the 2018 Sac-Joaquin Section Division V championship game Tuesday, Ripon’s girls soccer team had little trouble dispatching Amador 5-1 behind a balanced attack and sterling effort in goal by Ashley Pugh.
Hailey Peterson highlighted the onslaught for the Indians (2-0) with a pair of goals. Maddy Winter and Ari Scholten each pitched in a goal and an assist. Devaney Dougherty scored once, and Kailey Tijero contributed with an assist.
Pugh totaled 10 saves but exited the match with an injury in the second half. The Buffaloes (0-1) capitalized and made their only goal in the final minute.

Sierra 2, Pitman 1
The Timberwolves scored once in each half and won their season opener at comfortably despite giving up a late goal.
Juliana Rodriguez opened scoring in the 14th minute, working off a short cornerkick pass from Tiana Cello.  Sierra doubled the lead in the 57th minute when Preeya Singh set up Nicole Martin for an open look from the right wing.
The junior varsity match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Lathrop 1, Central Catholic 0
MODESTO — Aryana Jones registered the lone goal early in the second half, assisted by a through ball from defender Isa Paniagua.
Christina Solorio preserved the shutout and the first win of the season for Lathrop (1-2), coming up with three one-on-one stops.

LATHROP — The Spartans (1-1-1) squeaked out their first victory of the season, getting two goals from Hector Alvarez and one from Ricardo Chavez.
