East Union continued its solid start to the season on Monday, sweeping past visiting Lathrop, 25-20, 25-17, 25-14.
The Lancers (8-3) were anchored in the front row by Mariela Navarro’s eight kills and nine blocks and Katelynn Trevino’s five kills, six blocks.
Marcella Carranza distributed 13 assists while chipping in two blocks. Meritiana Luani tallied seven digs and two aces. Jatziry Garcia had four kills and two aces.
Lathrop (4-4) was led by Alaba Olalaye’s eight kills, nine digs. Camila De La Garza and Alejandra Vasquez dished out 11 and nine assists, respectively. Irais Martinez picked up 13 digs, and Azul Maldonado served four aces.
Manteca 3, Venture Academy 1
The Buffaloes were minus three starters but were still able to pull off the 21-25, 25-21, 25-11, 25-17 win.
Courtney Washburn helped pick up the slack, accumulating 17 kills, four blocks and five aces. Carsyn Van Zant tallied eight kills and five blocks.
Danielle Grabowski contributed four kills and two blocks. Emily Inderbitzin added five kills and 12 aces.
Junior varsity
Manteca 2, Venture Academy 0
Peyton McDonald five posted aces and four digs to help the Buffaloes sweep, 25-16, 25-15.
Jayana Dias produced three kills, four assists and three aces.
Lathrop 2, East Union 1
The Spartans escaped Dalben Center with a hard-earned 25-21, 18-25, 15-13 triumph.
Julia Roaquin led the attack with 10 assists and two aces. Justine Mabutas anchored the defense with 12 digs. Valerie Renteria rapped four kills, and while Annabelle Obasuyi had two solo blocks.
Giselle Velazquez rung up four kills, six aces and seven digs for East Union. Laura Montanez handed out seven assists to go with three aces and three kills. Brooke Dorland added six assists. Ciana Cisneros racked up nine digs and four kills.

They were led by Bailey Ford’s four kills. Lauren Alegre served eight points and four aces. Jocelyn Gonzalez chimed in with six aces, six points, three kills and three digs. Gwendolin Baker had seven aces and three digs.
Alyana Vere fired four aces for Lathrop.
