VOLLEYBALL: Manteca, East Union coast to sweeps

Manteca had its way with host rival Sierra in Valley Oak League volleyball action Thursday, sweeping 25-12, 25-12, 25-13.
The Buffaloes (2-0, 10-1 overall) took advantage to play the entire roster in this lopsided affair and produced several contributors.
Kaylee MacDannald served 16 points, including four aces, and added four kills and six digs. Kaitlyn Morenzone handed out 15 assists while collecting four kills and six digs. Kacy Bolding chimed in with nine assists, seven kills and seven digs.
Freshman Karlie Spohn contributed four kills and two blocks. Emma Kadillak (14 digs, 12 points, three aces), Abbey Kadillak (nine digs, five points) and Samantha Cerritos (four digs, six points) led the back row.
Manteca will soon be tested. The Buffaloes are hosting two undefeated clubs next week starting with Central Catholic on Tuesday. Then comes Tri-City Athletic League power Tracy for a nonleague match on Thursday, Sept. 13.  

East Union 3, Weston Ranch 0
STOCKTON — The Lancers (2-0, 5-2) are keeping pace with reigning champion Manteca following their dominant 25-12, 25-13, 25-21 win at Weston Ranch (0-2, 6-3).
Alexus Surnip distributed 25 assists and rapped five kills. Savannah Lebarre fired 12 kills, and Kiana Day added eight.
“We played well the first two games and tried some new things in the third game,” East Union coach Chelsea Herrera said. “We were a little rusty, but even with a couple bad points they were able to finish the game off.”

Ripon Christian 3, Denair 0
RIPON — The Knights (2-0 Southern League, 3-3 overall) had little resistance in dispatching winless Denair, 25-9, 25-12, 25-7.
Makenzie Miller led the way with seven kills, four aces, two blocks and two digs. Taylor Anema chipped in five kills, and Taylor Alger tallied 14 assists. Lauren Braga (three digs) and Renae Heida served four aces each
“We saw new plays and swings from some players tonight that kept the girls still working toward something into what could be a competitive weekend at the Golden Valley Tournament,” RC coach Jocelyn Benizger said.

Arielle Chandler racked up 14 assists and six kills, as the Buffaloes (1-1, 5-2) rolled to a 25-18, 25-15 victory.
Kim Yu finished with 12 digs, 11 service points and four aces. Katelyn Gross hammered five kills.
