MODESTO (AP) — Joe Rizzo hit a three-run home run in the third inning, and Evan White hit a two-run home run and had two hits as the Modesto Nuts beat the Stockton Ports 5-1 on Tuesday.

Stockton loaded the bases in the top of the ninth, but Greg Deichmann grounded out to end the game.

The home run by Rizzo scored Kevin Santa and Luis Liberato and was the game’s last scoring play.

Modesto right-hander Darren McCaughan (6-8) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings. Opposing starter Xavier Altamirano (3-4) took the loss in the California League game after giving up five runs and nine hits over six innings.
