Sweep places Lathrop 3rd in VOL

LATHROP — The Lathrop High wrestling team finished its dual season strong Wednesday, crushing visiting Weston Ranch and Kimball in Valley Oak League action.

The Spartans ended up tied for third with Manteca, which they defeated 42-33 in the league opener. The loss cost Manteca a spot in the Sac-Joaquin Section Team Duals tournament.

Lathrop lost three of four matches against Kimball but took advantage of nine forfeitures in a 66-15 win. The Spartans then rolled to a 60-9 victory over Weston Ranch, which had just two forfeits. Weston Ranch topped Kimball, 42-19.

Keonnee Linnell is the lone Spartan to claim both of his matches on the mat, securing second-round pins against Kimball’s Joseph Parungao and Weston Ranch’s Steven Gill from the 138-pound spot.

Also earning wins against Weston Ranch were Jason Ramos (106) by fall, Kimberly Vega (113) by a 5-4 decision, Mysson Harrell (120) by fall, Cristian Garcia (126) by fall, Josiah Acosta (145) by fall, Octavio Ruelas (152) by fall, Keannu Linnell (170) by fall and Brian Folgar (285) by a 2-1 decision.
