 MODESTO (AP) — Nick Zammarelli hit a run-scoring double in the first inning, leading the Modesto Nuts to a 6-4 win over the Visalia Rawhide on Friday.
Seth Elledge struck Marcus Wilson out with a runner on second to end the game for his sixth save of the season.
The double by Zammarelli, part of a two-run inning, gave the Nuts a 1-0 lead before Joe Rizzo hit an RBI single later in the inning.
Trailing 6-3, the Rawhide cut into the deficit in the eighth inning when Dominic Miroglio hit an RBI single, scoring Daulton Varsho.
Modesto right-hander Reggie McClain (2-2) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing three runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings. Opposing starter Emilio Vargas (3-1) took the loss in the California League game after giving up four runs and five hits over five innings.
