Tommy Miller likes them high.
The Spreckels Park third baseman took a 1-0 eye-high offering Friday and reached up to smash it over the left-field fence for a three-run home run in a five-run third inning on the way to a 14-4 four-inning mercy-shortened win over Tracy American in the District 67 11-Year-Old All-Star Tournament on Bassi Field at Northgate Little League.
Miller was a triple short of the cycle, going 4 for 4 with a home run, two doubles and six RBI including a two-RBI double in the fourth that plated Hunter Dunham and Santino Flores (2 for 4, three runs) to end the game on the mercy rule.
Spreckels Park answered Tracy’s one run in the top of the first with six in the bottom of the inning behind seven hits and never looked back.
Flores, Miller, Troy Morrow, Dylan McDonald and Noah Aguirre started the game with consecutive singles with only Flores’ landing in the outfield – the other four found their way between infielders.
Miller batted in Flores, Aguirre plated Miller and Morrow (3 for 3, run), McDonald (two runs) scored on a wild pitch and Aguirre scored on a groundout by Frank Teicheira IV. Later in the frame Zach Walmer (double, RBI, run) doubled and scored.
Spreckels Park faces Salida today at noon on Bassi Field.
