Randy Morgenstern was born into a Ford family.
His father, Joe, who is a retired mechanic, owned a variety of Ford vehicles throughout the years. He has a sister who drives a sporty GT Mustang.
“We’re all Ford,” said Morgenstern on Wednesday.
He’s also part of another Ford family: Manteca Ford, 555 N. Main St.
Morgenstern has been with the Phil Waterford-owned dealership for the past 10 years. He started off delivering parts and worked his way to parts manager.
His department not only promises fast deliveries – additional parts can quickly be had since the Ford Motor Company Parts Distribution Center servicing all of Northern California is conveniently located not too far away in Spreckels Park – but with customer satisfaction.
“Our customer service (for the parts department) ranks above any in the region and the entire nation,” said Waterford.
Morgenstern added that sales from his inventory have increased by 26 percent over that of the previous year. Customers include the wholesalers and do-it-yourselfers.
What’s the key?
“The parts we keep in stock are parts that sell,” Waterford said. “We’re consistently turning over inventory.”
In other words, there’s no room here for old stock to collect dust.
The Manteca Ford parts department is open Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and recently extending to Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Waterford noted that the parts department also serves as a feeder for Quick Lane – that’s the fast, no-appointment-necessary maintenance service area at Manteca Ford for tires, wheel alignment, oil changes, brake work, batteries, struts and / or anything needing two hours or less of work – and the supplier for the main service department.
The latter accommodates the extended warranty plans and the standard coverage.
Morgenstern, for one, enjoys his job. It’s there he gets a chance to see at first glance the variety of cars, new and old, at the Ford dealership.
“Phil just bought a 1965 (Ford) pickup – that brought back a lot of memories,” he said.
Morgenstern was once a proud owner of a 1966 Ford truck. He’s had various Ford vehicles since then, including a 1966 Galaxy, his labor of love.
“I’m slowly fixing that one up,” said Morgenstern, who bought the car from an employee of his father’s shop some 12 years ago.
His goal is to restore this Ford sedan to its original stock condition. “Working on cars is a hobby,” he added.
Morgenstern grew up in Livermore – he’s a 1995 graduate of Granada High – and has called Manteca his home for the past five years.
He started off as a parts driver for Manteca Ford, making deliveries within a 25-mile radius, from Stockton, Modesto, Tracy, Lodi and other places in the coverage area.
Through his experience, Morgenstern, who also worked the parts counter, knows first-hand that Ford has the fastest parts-fill delivery service in the industry.
“Randy has good knowledge of the department,” Waterford said.
