Shots were fired at a group of three individuals standing in a driveway on Wawona Avenue just east of Union Road shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday.

Manteca Police said a tall, thin, young Hispanic male stopped his green, ‘90s four-door Honda in front of the residence.  Words were reportedly exchanged with the individuals and he opened fire on the trio, but didn’t strike anyone.  He ran back to his vehicle and left at a high rate of speed.

Officers in the area stopped two vehicles, thinking they might be the gunman but to no avail. Members of the city’s gang unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation trying to determine if it was gang related.  Several casings from a semi-automatic weapon were found at the scene.

The department was busy over the weekend with events that included four stolen vehicles within the city.
