Lincoln School student Selena Lopez was in need of a cut and trim.

As a member of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Manteca, she was able to get her hair done free of charge Monday thanks to Dior School of Cosmetology, Inc.

The school that also provides full-service cosmetology needs – included is hair coloring, manicure, pedicure, facials, and nails – was providing help to youngsters age 6 through 18 belonging to the non-profit organization for the second time in the past few weeks.

Lopez, 10, needed a signed permission slip from a parent in order to get the free haircut on this day.

“This is a community service that we provide to help out families,” said Dior instructor Kimberly Jackson.

She brought along students Caitlin Duncan, Alicia Farmanian, Courtney Huff and Brandy Baldovino, who are all aspiring to work in the field.

Duncan, Farmanian and Huff started at Dior about the same time. Thus far, they fulfilled their classroom requirements but still had to complete 1,600 hours of service working with customers. The three Dior students had 900 hours each while inching towards that goal.

Once completed, they’ll receive a certificate along with help from Dior in preparing for the State of California licensing exam.

Baldovino has put in about 700 hours.

Jackson noted that mostly girls from the club were getting haircuts this time around.

“We had more boys the last time,” she said.

Jackson, added that this was the first time Dior has provided this service to Boys and Girls Club of Manteca youngsters.
