Debbie Wold has been a Merrill Gardens resident for the past three years.
During that time, she looks forward to the performance of Christmas carols as sung by Lincoln School third-grade students.
It means so much to us,” Wold said on Thursday. “It’s a nice way to build up the Christmas spirit.”
About 80 youngsters from the classes of Laura Sutters, Micah Kelly, Gina Obrochta and Deana Ehlen spent that day spreading the holiday spirit throughout Manteca.
Besides Merrill Gardens, they made stops at the Manteca Unified School District office, the Commons at Union Ranch, Manteca Care and Rehabilitation Center, and the Manteca Branch Library.
According to Ehlen, who has organized the caroling event for the past three years, making the rounds to the various places has become more clockwork.
“We’re actually a little bit ahead of schedule,” she said.
In order to get such tunes as “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “Rudolph the Red-nose Reindeer,” “We Wish You A Merry Christmas,” to name a few, just right several rehearsals were scheduled in the class room.
Students also performed at the previous day’s all-school Christmas pageant.
“I think this is a great tradition for the holidays,” said Ehlen, who, with her background in music, directed the large group in carols. “And it’s been great for the community.”
Wold agreed.
“We look forward to the (Lincoln School) Christmas carolers every year,” she said.
The holiday event was made possible by Lincoln’s Parents Teachers Club.
