Students from the Manteca Unified School ag program spent the last week at the San Joaquin County Fair showing everything from rabbits and steers to pigs and turkeys.
Much of that time was used for setting up their animals by the Future Farmers of America members. The actual fair ran from June 24 through the 28th.
Danielle Shaw won honors for the best goat and the best turkey at the fair.
Ag instructor Ryan Costa said he was heartened by the turnout of sponsors willing to purchase the animals at the end of the fair despite the downed economy. “It’s a sign that people still care about the young ag program,” he said.
The MUSD ag program and school farm involves Manteca High, Sierra, High, Weston Ranch and East Union High School.
