ROUNDUP: Sullivan, Bogetti lead Ripon to 5th straight TVL golf title

Ripon sophomore Cru Sullivan wrapped up Most Outstanding Player honors in the Trans Valley League after leading the Indians to a fifth consecutive title run.

He was runner-up in the TVL year-end tournament Monday at Micke Grove Golf Links, finishing 2-under-par 70. Teammate Andrew Bogetti was low medalist at 69, as Ripon netted a five-man total of 389 — just three better than runner-up Ripon Christian.

Ripon was well positioned to complete its title defense having won six of seven regular-season tournament. Points are doubled for the league finale. In the end, the Indians topped the TVL with 53 points followed by Ripon Christian’s 46, Hughson (32), Sonora (25), Hilmar (24), Escalon (11) and Orestimba (0).

The top three teams and six individuals advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V Tournament.

Both Ripon and Ripon Christian have four all-league players. Hilmar’s Sam Avila earned MVP, and Ripon’s Chris Musseman is Coach of the Year.

All-league selections Alan Bunchien (79) and Sam Stewart (80) were among scoring contributors for Ripon’s latest tourney win. Christian Taylor added a 91.

Thomas Graham and Matthew Ubick both placed third for Ripon Christian with 74s. Hudson Schenk, who ended up third on the overall season leaderboard, tallied a 75. Carter Van Groningen took seventh in the tournament with an 80. He joins the aforementioned Knights on the all-league team. Jeremy Molloy contributed an 89.

The Division IV tournament is next Monday, May 4 back at Micke Grove.

Western Athletic Conference

Lathrop standout Brayden Beckmann is conference MVP for a third straight year.

He posted a 3-under 69 Rancho del Rey Golf Club in the WAC Championship. Raphael Iniguez chimed in with a 90, and the two Spartans will next compete in the SJS Division IV Tournament at Wildhorse Golf Club in Davis on May 4.

Lathrop totaled a 496 team score, which includes Bryce Rebeiro (105), Jasjeet Batthal (115) and Ryan Cabanting (117).

BASEBALL

East Union 13, Mountain House 6

The Lancers (12-6, 19-8 overall) concluded their regular-season schedule with the make-up game at Mountain House (4-14, 12-16).

A seven-run surge in the top of the seventh inning was the difference.

Jackson Fay (3 for 4, double, three RBIs), Brayden Camara (3 for 4, two runs) Efren Diaz (2 for 3, two RBIs) and Aidan Pullen (three RBIs) anchored the attack. Winning pitcher Peyton Heath struck out 10 over 6 2/3 innings. Diaz got the final out.

The SJS playoffs begin next week. Brackets will be released Saturday afternoon.

River Islands 14, Millennium 3 (5)

In Tracy, Santiago Lopez amassed 12 strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings, and Ahi Bysani fanned the final batter to complete the combined three-hitter for River Islands (5-2 Central California Athletic Alliance, 13-7 overall).

George Dayeh highlighted the offense with a homer, finishing 2 for 2 with two runs and four RBIs. Cash Orndoff added two hits, two runs and an RBI. Bysani drove in three runs.

SOFTBALL

Central Valley 15, East Union 7

The Lancers (13-11) led the non-league contest 7-2 after two innings. The Western Athletic Conference-leading Hawks (13-8) raced away with 13 unanswered runs in the final three frames.

Na’meen Harper drove in three runs for East Union. Savanna Lopez (two runs), Michaela Tarr (two RBIs), Isabelle Reyes and Lily Pickering (double, RBI) all went 2 for 4. Caliyah Lopez contributed three steals and two runs.

Lathrop 15, Johansen 0 (5)

Maci De Costa pitched a mercy-shortened perfect game for the Spartans (6-3 WAC, 11-7-1 overall) striking out seven. She was also productive on offense, with two walks, two runs and a sacrifice fly.

Kendall Stewart powered the offense with five RBIs, going 3 for 4 with a double. Ja’Leiyah Ray went 2 for 3 and added a homer and two steals.

Tatianna Lopez (two runs, RBI), Tianna Gonzalez (two runs, two RBIs) and Luz De Luna (triple, two runs, RBI) each contributed two hits. Avaihna Calderon plated three runs.
