MARIPOSA  (AP) — Firefighters are close to containing a wildfire that has burned about 3 square miles near the main route into Yosemite National Park.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said Saturday that the fire near Mariposa is 90 percent surrounded.

The fire was sparked June 16 by an unattended campfire that was not fully extinguished. It forced the evacuation of some 800 homes earlier in the week before officials allowed all residents back on Thursday.

A total of 672 firefighters battled the blaze.
