Ruth Ann Rhodes Wood, beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, brother–in–law, sister–in–law and friend, passed away at the age of 85 in Manteca on September 5,2026, surrounded by her family. Ruth Ann was born in North Charleston, W. Virginia to Denver and Anna Ford. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, husband Elis “Chick” Wood and ex–husband Hank Rhodes. She moved to Manteca in 1965 to continue working for Pacific Bell telephone company until retirement after 27 years with the company. Ruth Ann moved here with her ex–husband Hank so he could help with the start–up of Libbey Owens Ford in Lathrop, Ca. She was very active in the community. She was one of the co-founders and director of Anna’s House, a women’s shelter on Center St. The house was donated by Mr. Raymus. A plaque still remains on the house honoring her. She received two awards for her work with Women Helping Women from Senator Partick Johnson and Congressman Richard Pombo. Ruth Ann was very involved with Manteca Moose Lodge, helping gather toys for Toys for Tots, helped at the start up with planning the Manteca Pumpkin Festival. Placed flags around Manteca, manned the phones for Boys and Girls Club telethons. Worked on local political campaigns. She loved her community. She leaves behind her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ken and Cheryl Rhodes. Many nieces, nephews, two God daughters and many friends. Ruth Ann was loved by many. Service will be Monday, September 21, 2026 at Parkview Cemetery, 3661 E. French Camp Rd., Manteca, from 1-3:30pm. There will be no reception following the service. Private interment will be at a later date.
