LATHROP – The father of Lathrop City Council member and former vice mayor, Sonny Dhaliwal, passed away June 27 in Stockton.
The death of the 71-year-old father of three and grandfather of eight was also a big loss to the Sikh Temple in Stockton, considered the oldest in the nation, where he was an active member and leader for many years.
Prior to his retirement, Tirath S. Dhaliwal was in agri-business for more than three decades.
He was born in Pakistan on Jan. 12, 1941 and was preceded in death by his wife, Gurmit K. Dhaliwal. Before her death a few years ago, Gurmit Dhaliwal was saved by the quick action of the Lathrop-Manteca Fire District paramedics after she suffered a heart attack.
Besides his son Sonny and wife Ruby, Tirath Dhaliwal is survived by his other son Tony and wife Amanda of Manteca, daughter Jaswinder Atwal and her husband Kulvinder, and grandchildren Kamal, Sonia, Karan, Jason, Rajan, Priya, Gurpreet, and Aman.
