The Lobo Gold Rally at Sierra High has been around for 20 years.
But Friday’s event that recognized academic students — held twice a year — celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Assistant Principal Anthony Chapman, who was filling in for Steve Clark — the Sierra principal was out with an illness — also announced the valedictorian and co-salutatorians near the conclusion of the Lobo Gold spring rally.
Nadira Noor earned the top honor of valedictorian, earning a 4.53 grade point average.
James Quiaoit and Erick Enriquez had identical 4.37 GPAs and, thus, will serve as co-salutatorians for the upcoming commencement exercises fpr the Class of 2018.
Needless to say, all three earned Lobo Gold. They were among the 152 students who achieved a 4.0 GPA or better while also maintaining good citizenship.
Another 439 made the Lobo Silver list with a 3.25 to 3.99 GPA.
Those achieving Lobo Blue kept up a 2.25 to 3.24 GPA marked by positive behavior and near perfect attendance.
A total of 1,036 students at Sierra were honored at the Lobo Gold Rally held in the large gym. Manteca Unified dignitaries in attendance included school board Vice President Bob Wallace, Clerk Evelyn Moore, Deputy Superintendent Clark Burke and Senior Director of Secondary Education Clara Schmiedt.
Lobo Gold was also about entertainment.
Jaylen Jackson along with Jesse Hurtado, Nick Stanley and Elijah White did a spoof of the Netflix’s series Stranger Things, which involves a small town in the 1980s clashing with SHS in 2018.
