Below average highs in forecast through Sunday in SJ Valley

Temperatures through Sunday in the Northern San Joaquin Valley will be running between 7 and 12 degrees cooler than normal.

While the region will stay below the 89 degree high average for the next six days, the lows will still be coming in right around the June average of 57 degrees.

The National Weather Service forecast is based on a touch of monsoon conditions that are creating slightly usual weather patterns over much of Northern California.

The heavy cloud cover Monday cooled things a bit in South San Joaquin County but it pushed temperatures close to the 100 degree mark in the Northern Sacramento Valley that brought thunderstorms to the north state.

A pattern of thunderstorm in the valley, foothills, and mountains of Sacramento is expected to continue through at least Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Underscoring the unusual weather pattern is the fact the lowest and highest temperatures on Sunday  in the Lower 48 states  were recorded within 130 miles of each other. Both are in California.

Tioga Pass on Highway 120 at 9,943 feet on the eastern edge of Yosemite National reached a low of 25 degrees.

Meanwhile, Furnace Creek in the heart of  Death Valley at 190 feet recorded a high of 109 degrees.
