ballot box
A San Joaquin County ballot drop box.

Republican Steve Hilton and Democrat Xavier Becerra were leading the San Joaquin County vote tally for governor as of 12:01 a.m. today.

Hilton had 31.8 percent of the 74,248 ballots counted while Becerra had 22 percent.

There are 410,058 registered voters in the county. It won’t be clear for days how many actually cast ballots and possibly weeks before final results are known due to the large number of mail-in and drop-off ballots.

In third based on the count so far was Republican Chad Bianco with 15.3 percent followed by Democrat Tom Steyer with 14.64 percent.

The vote tally for the rest of the contenders dropped off after that with Democrat and San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan leading the remainder of the pack at 4.03 percent.

Former Stockton Mayor Michel Tubbs was leading the lieutenant governor vote tally from San Joaquin County with 15.92 percent.

He was followed by Fiona Ma at 15.31 percent, Gloria Romero at 15.1 percent, and Davis Collenberg at 14.7 percent.

In the 9th Congressional race, incumbent Josh Hareder had 54.79 percent followed by John McBridge at 27.44 percent.

The 9th Assembly count was neck-and-neck with Mathhew Adams at 26.98 percent, incumbent Heath Flora at 26.57 percent, and Jim Shoemaker at 26.24 percent.
