Edito’s note: The following is the joint press release issued by the City of Manteca and Delicato Family Wines after they reached a settlement agreement as reported in Thursday’s edition of the Bulletin. If the city is able to meet goals outlined in the agreement by 88 days before the March 5, 2024 election day, Delicato will drop the referendum on the general plan it collected enough valid signatures to qualify for the ballot as well as a lawsuit filed against the city.
The City of Manteca and Delicato are pleased to announce that they have come to an agreement on suggested changes to bring forward for consideration regarding the 2043 General Plan. This agreement creates a positive path forward for Manteca that marks a significant milestone towards continued community prosperity and offering benefits to the residents.
A Commitment to Economic Growth and Family-Wage Jobs
The revisions proposed to the General Plan is a strategic move to enhance Manteca's economic landscape, ensuring benefits for every resident. By attempting to expand areas designated for industrial and commercial activities, City management is hopeful to create significant opportunities for well-paying, family-sustaining jobs. This proposed effort will hopefully not only bring job opportunities closer to our community, but will also lay the foundation for a prosperous job market where local residents can work where they live. It clearly demonstrates our joint commitment to nurture a robust and inclusive economic future for Manteca.
The agreement also endeavors to facilitate a much-needed extension of Roth Road, extending Roth Road to Highway 99. In support, Delicato has agreed to donate a crucial part of their property for the route, playing a pivotal role in enhancing efficient access to a potential new job creating industrial and commercial area in the northern part of the City. The parties anticipate that this strategic contribution will streamline job growth and strengthen connectivity within our community's growing economic zones.
Addressing Infrastructure and Traffic Concerns
As our City grows, we know it puts a strain on basic infrastructure like roads, utilities, and important public buildings like fire stations. To deal with this, the City will ensure that development projects mitigate for their impacts to our City's infrastructure. This means developers will have to help upgrade their fair share towards roads, utilities, and public services as they build houses to make sure infrastructure growth matches housing growth. These investments are key to reducing traffic congestion and making commutes better for our residents.
The Vision for More Family-Friendly Activities
The new General Plan Amendment, proposed for consideration in the next few months, also contemplates planning for a new 50-acre regional park. This Park would provide a huge green space for our community families while envisioning a vibrant entertainment venue for our entire community, the possibility of a large community pool, and promising a hub of leisure and recreation for our residents.
Gratitude for Collaboration and Leadership
A heartfelt thanks to Mayor Gary Singh and Vice Mayor Mike Morowit. Their leadership and vision were crucial in uniting many different views in our City to produce a plan that benefits Manteca residents. Delicato Family Wines is grateful for the non-stop hard work of our City leaders in dealing with the challenges of growing our economy and enhancing the quality of life. This effort is all about making things better for every resident in Manteca, showing that when we work together, we all benefit.
This proposed, new General Plan Amendment is intended to represent a much-needed bold step forward for the City of Manteca, aiming to improve the quality of life while supporting job creation and economic growth. We are especially looking forward to the upcoming public hearings where we will discuss these plans and proposals in detail. It is an opportunity for everyone in the community to get involved and share their thoughts, which will help make Manteca a better place for us now and for generations to come .
