Kohl seeking election to Ripon City Council

Richard Kohl is well-connected in  Ripon.

Much of that credit goes to his wife, Krista DeBie-Kohl.

“She comes from a large family,” said Kohl, who is among five candidates seeking three seats on the Ripon City Council.

He mentioned Thursday that the DeBie family inner-circle includes the Machados and Den Dulks, among others.

Richard Kohl is also a product of a large family in Southern California. He grew up in Santa Ana and hopped around the Central Valley, living in Ceres and Modesto.

He’s currently employed at Valley Tool & Manufacturing in Hughson. Some of the products there are being used for fire-relief efforts, including backhoe implements employed by Cal Fire to open up fire lines.

Kohl, who is the father of four, also worked for a military shoe place and Bronco Wine Co. in Ceres.

Speaking of children, he enjoys the quaintness of Ripon.

"I like that my kids can go outside to the corner store or the park and I'm not worried (about their safety)," said Kohl.

As for himself?

"I love that I can go to places in town and be recognized as a familiar face. That's how you build relationships," he said.

Kohl is a relatable person, shaped by hard work and life's experiences.

"I understand people who are struggling or those who are line workers along with low to lower middle income families," he said, having volunteered his time to help out at Bethany Homes prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kohl believes he has plenty to offer to the City, if elected.

"I think I can be impactful. I'm fiscally responsible and charitable minded," he said.

Kohl added: "I think everyone who's running for Council brings a special skill that can well-serve the community."
