The Manteca Arch across South Main Street

Ed Larimer was the first to find the final $100 virtual pumpkin in the Manteca Bulletin’s Pumpkin Hunt.

It was hidden on the Manteca gateway sign over South Main Street between Wetmore Street and Oak Street by the railroad tracks.

The clues were as follows:

*An orangish glow — There are 2,800 LED lights that are programmable in various colors. The city chose to use orange to mark the days leading up to — and including — Halloween. School colors were used the week of homecoming for Sierra, Manteca and East Union in recent months. It is expected to be in red and green lights for the Christmas season.

*The main sign — The gateway sign is “the sign” on Main Street. One of the goals that have been expressed for the sign is that it will serve as an iconic community symbol for Manteca similar to the old water tower located several hundred feet to the east of the sign.

*Dogs & cats nearby — The sign is adjacent to the Manteca Animal Shelter.

*10,000 pounds — The sign weighs 10,000 pounds and spans 92 feet and 4 inches.

Brian Johnson of Fusion Signs, the firm that designed and installed the sign, noted the programmable arch lighting is unique, although they have installed two similar 24-foot arches in South California. The Manteca arch spans almost four times the distance of the SoCal counterparts.
