Lathrop gearing up for Halloween fun

Everyone can enjoy some Halloween fun even if they have to stay closer to home this year.

Looking for something fun to do in Lathrop for Halloween?

The Lathrop Parks and Recreation Department has got you covered.

Starting this weekend, the Lathrop Parks and Recreation Department will begin rolling out a series of community events centered on the spooky season – events that range from community craft events to movies in the park to trick or treating.

On Saturday, Oct. 16, the Lathrop Parks and Recreation Department will host a Halloween T-shirt-making class at the Lathrop Generations Center from 12 to 3 p.m. Aimed to school-aged children from third through sixth grade, the event is $25 and those that participate will get the chance to make a t-shirt, play games, and make new friends.

The fun will continue the following week on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Lathrop Generations Center – located at 450 Spartan Way – with a trunk-or-treat event and free movie in the park for the community. Presented by No Limit Familia, the trunk-or-treat event will run from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with the movie – Monster House – beginning immediately after the event concludes.

A costume contest and car decoration contest will be available, as will food trucks.

The festivities kicked off on Thursday, Oct. 14 with a paint party where those that signed up got to paint the two main characters from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” – one of the most popular Halloween movies of all time.

And even Lathrop’s seniors will be able to get in on the fun.

On Monday, Oct. 25, the Lathrop Senior Center will host a Halloween-themed bingo game and a costume contest for the community’s seniors. The free event will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will feature prizes for those that win both bingo and the costume contest.
