Lathrop OKs plans for Wendy’s, Chick-fil-A, & Ono Hawaiian BBQ
Chick Fil A
Chick-fil-A is expanding to Lathrop

There are at least three restaurants currently in the development pipeline for Lathrop in addition to a host of other businesses.

The Lathrop City Council got a development update during it’s first monthly business meeting of 2024 where the council was informed that at least three dining establishments – a Wendy’s, a Chick fil-A, and an Ono Hawaiian barbecue – have all been approved but not yet constructed.

Those are in addition to the Jama Juice that is nearing construction completion, as well as a Chevron Gas Station in River Islands.

According to the presentation made to the council, the city will also soon be seeing a new Maverik gas station near the old Pilkington float glass plant on Louise Avenue, a Home2Hilton and a Towneplace Suites that were approved for Golden Valley Parkway, and an assisted living facility along Golden Valley Parkway. Construction on those projects is expected to begin shortly.

A new distribution center for Macy’s has also been constructed on Business Park Court – located off of Yosemite Avenue – that will help the longstanding retailer in its goal to bolster its burgeoning online business as in-store retail sales decline across the entire sector.

The report was part on a periodic update to the council on the status of growth and development in one of California’s fastest-growing cities.

And while retail and industrial growth has continued at a record clip in the city, it appears that new home construction in 2023 wasn’t as robust as it has been in recent years.

According to the presentation, Lathrop issued 586 residential building permits during 2023 – down from the 972 issued in 2022 and down nearly 50 percent from the 1,122 new permits issued in 2021. While those numbers are lower, they are not necessarily pegged to the number of new homes constructed in the city during the last calendar year since housing permits are valid for two years from the date they are issued according to the California Residential Code.
