Challenger Jacob Naven raised $21,313 in the six month period ending June 30 in his bid to unseat Mayor Gary Singh in the Nov. 3 mayor’s race.

That brings the total raised by Naven since Jan. 1, 2025 — he raised $18,014 last year — to $39,327.

Naven’s 2025 fundraising included the biggest single campaign contribution yet of this election cycle — $5,500 from the Building Industry Association of the Greater Valley.

Naven’s tally also includes a combined $10,536 he has personally contributed to his own campaign.

Singh did not raise funds during the six-month period or during 2025.

He did, however, have $44,121 left over from the 2022 mayoral race.

Singh raised $149,000 in the three-way mayor’s race in 2022 plus had a carryover of $25,000 from his 2000 City Council race. He ended up spending $130,000 in 2022.

The mayor has $25,409 on hand as of June 30 after spending $18,217 on the current election including $13,000 for campaign mailers.

Naven, as of June 30, has $14,757 on hand.

Naven has spent $312 more on this mayoral election as of June 30 as he listed $18,329 in expenditures.

Taking carryovers, expenditures, and fund raising into account, Naven has almost erased Singh’s money advantage for this election cycle with $39,327 to Singh’s $44,121.

The only other candidate for the Nov. 3 municipal election reporting raising funds for their campaign was incumbent Mike Morowit who is seeking re-election to represent District 4.

Morowit has raised $16,362 as of June 30.

That includes $5,000 from Building Industry Association of the Great Valley.

Other contributions of $500 or more for Morowit includes $1,000 from Holman Investors and $500 each from David Hakeem as well as Hakeem, Ellis, & Marengo.

Naven’s backers

Former Mayor Ben Cantu who lost to Singh in the 2022 mayor’s race and has indicated he will be a candidate in the 2028 race for the District council seat in southwest Manteca now represented by Charlie Halford, is putting his money where his mouth is.

He has donated $620 to date to Naven’s election.

Cantu has made it clear he is pursuing a change in the city’s direction by first getting Naven elected mayor and then himself to the council in 2028.

Ayman Suliman has contributed $1,500, Rodriquez $1,250, and Corie Coleman $1,000 to Naven’s election bid.

Those donating $1,000 to Naven in the first half of the year includes Karen Cambra and George Gibson.

Dave Eavenson has contributed $560 to Naven’s effort.

Contributing $500 each were Aaron Bowers, Darrell Burruss, Octavio Guitierrez, High Quality Fence, Richard Lowry, and Frank Wheeler.
