One location, two options for fireworks
BUYING FIREWORKS
Ann Evans and Bob Miller from the local Order of the Eastern Star help operate the nearby TNT Fireworks booth near Food-4-Less.

East Yosemite Avenue near the corner of Cottage Avenue in Manteca could be considered a one-stop shop for that Fourth of July fireworks needs.

On one side is the Phantom Fireworks booth benefiting the Manteca High Athletic Boosters. On Friday – the official first day of firework sales in Manteca, Lathrop and Ripon – Jodi Verhoeven, who is the secretary of the MHS boosters, was helping gear up for these next few days.

“This is the first year for the boosters,” she said of the proceeds benefiting the various sports programs at the school.

Prior to that, the Manteca High Football Boosters occupied that same space.

The Phantom Fireworks booth will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Wednesday and Thursday – or based on supplies – and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday through Tuesday.

“We’re very excited to selling fireworks this year,” said Verhoeven, who has 28 shifts total scheduled through the day of July 4.

A few feet away is the TNT Fireworks booth under the operation of the Order of the Eastern Star, which, according to Bob Miller, is a fraternal organization of the Masons.

He holds the office of Worthy Patron – otherwise known as the master mason – for the local chapter.

His TNT Fireworks booth open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. from now through the Fourth of July and while supplies last.

“This is the first time (selling fireworks booth) in a couple of years,” said Miller, who added the Order of the Eastern Star sold fireworks as a fundraising effort in 2014 and 2015.

The local Order of the Eastern Star have used the proceeds here to support the Rainbow Girls and Blue Star Moms in the past.

“This will help out with our youth groups,” Miller said.

A lottery system determines as to which eligible non-profit will have the opportunity to sell safe-and-sane fireworks.

The MHS Athletic Boosters and the Order of the Eastern Star were both thrilled to have a chance to make extra money to support their various endeavors.
