East Union’s baseball team had no answer for UC Davis-bound pitching ace Tyler Ritter in an 8-0 loss to top-seeded Roseville on Tuesday.

The fourth-seeded Lancers (21-9) aim to stave off elimination Thursday when they host game 2 of the best-of-three Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV semifinal. Roseville (25-4) may likely try to close it out with its other senior ace in Ethan Gustus, who has committed to Vanderbilt.

Ritter was dominant and efficient in his two-hit shutout, needing just 73 pitches to get through the seven innings. He also rung up 10 strikeouts against one walk. One of the two hits he gave up was to fellow UC Davis signee Jackson Fay — the Lancers’ electric leadoff hitter is going there football.

Brayden Camara got the other hit and was one of four pitchers used by East Union.

The Tigers did all of their damage in the first three innings, including a four-run flurry in the third. They totaled 12 hits, including a home run from sophomore Benjamin Jordan. Justin Fischer went 3 for 4 with a double. Austin Chang went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and was one of three Roseville hitters with two knocks.
