Ripon Police force obtains a new dog named ‘Jack’
K9 jack
Jack, a 2-year-old German shepherd.

He’s the newest addition to the Ripon Police Department’s K-9 Unit.

The 2-year-old German shepherd was trained in Germany by world-renowned dog trainer Markus Maaser, according to local police via social media on Thursday.

“Maaser also trained the department’s last two patrol K-9s Vitus and Argos,” Ripon Police Department added.

Vitus, who had been with the department since 2019, was recently retired. Argos, who is assigned to Officer Kyle Prather, is still active.

On June 28, Officer Matthew Brodhag – he began his law enforcement career with the Ripon Police Department since 2019 – was selected as Jack’s handler.

“Matt will officially be assigned to the position once they both complete an intense eight-week K-9 handler course (scheduled to begin in September) in compliance with Peace Officer Standards & Training requirements,” police noted.

Jack, who has already been trained in obedience, tracking, and protection – as mentioned at the July Ripon City Council meeting – will soon give the department two canines assigned to patrol.
