Ripon seniors gather above Highway 99
rhs foot
Ripon High football players helped in sprucing up the campus in preparation for the new school year.

Senior Sunrise is a longstanding first-day tradition at Ripon High.

Members of the Class of 2020, as in this case, will open the new school year today by gathering high atop of the Highway 99 pedestrian overpass that connects the campus to the east side of the freeway.

Senior Sunrise begain at 5:45 a.m. with donuts and refreshments, according to Activities Director Jill Mortensen.

An estimated 1,040 students – a record number – are expected on campus today to kick off the 2019-2020 school year.

Upon their arrival, they’ll receive “You’re Smart Cookie” cookies distributed by RHS staff, Leadership and Link Crew.

Students from throughout Ripon Unified will welcome one new principal – Jim Schuller at Park View Elementary School – and 20 teachers at RHS, Ripon Elementary, Ripona, Colony Oak, Weston and Harvest High on this first day.

The new RUSD hires were welcomed at last week’s school board meeting.
