Ripon trustees recognizing top district spellers tonight

The Ripon Unified school board will recognize the top spellers in the district at tonight’s monthly session.

In particular, those who competed in the San Joaquin County Spelling Bee Championships held at the SJC Office of Education earlier this month.

Included were Jacob Thomas, Brian Hampton, Dahlia Silveira and Jack Schooland of Ripon Elementary School; April Yan of Ripon High; Gavin Olds of Colony Oak Elementary School; Harleen Kaur of Park View Elementary School; and Caitlin Mooney of Weston Elementary School.

They’ll be honored at the 7 p.m. open session in the Ripon City Hall Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

In other agenda items:

  • Trustees will conduct their annual organizational meeting, consisting of the election of officers – president, vice president and clerk.
  • They’ll likely again appoint Superintendent Ziggy Robeson as the Secretary to the Board of Trustees.
  • Ryker Christensen, who is a second grader at Weston, is scheduled to be recognized for being the student winner of the Hospice of San Joaquin Tree of Lights Art Contest. Principal Lisa Fereira and Weston second-grade teacher Lisa Dahlin will present the youngster who had his winning art used on the program of the local annual Tree of Lights Ceremony held Dec. 2 at Veterans Memorial Wall.
  • Trustee Christopher ‘Kit’ Oase will be honored for serving as school board president for the past year. He’ll receive a wall plaque and wall gavel for completing his term in office.
