Fall is right around the corner and with it comes the annual Brush Pick-Up Program for the City of Ripon.
Director of Public Works James Pease made that announcement at the recent Ripon City Council meeting.
Beginning next month – Oct. 17 through Jan. 7 – the city is offering curbside services of collecting leaves, yard trimmings, and, later, Christmas trees at no extra charge to residents, doing so in an effort to support a cleaner, greener community.
All loose trimmings and leaves should be placed along the curb and not in bags or tied bundles.
Sidewalk gutters must be left clear to allow for the proper stormwater runoff.
Not accepted will be palm fronds, stumps, or other solid waste materials.
Branches must be under 4 feet in length and no more than 6 inches in diameter.
There will be no need for residents to call. The public works crews will be making their weekly rounds, checking every neighborhood – those who have piles not picked up one week can wait the following week.
According to the City of Ripon, the program diverts over 500 tones of green waste from its landfill each year and this service, in turn, can help save utility customers about $33,000 in disposal fees.
“By recycling organic material into mulch or compost, we reduce environmental impact and keep Ripon beautiful,” said the City of Ripon Fall 2025 newsletter.
