Relay for Life hosts survivors this Saturday

This year the Manteca Relay for Life Committee is hard at work to reach its goals. The volunteer members are striving to become a Million Dollar Relay. What that means is that if they hit their fundraising goal of $167,000 for this year’s event, they will have raised $1,000,000 in 11 years.

They currently have 71 teams registered for this year’s event with 584 participants, but are always looking for more teams to join the fight. And those 71 teams have already raised $33,532.20. The goal is to have 80 teams participate in this year’s event, up from 66 last year.

They have been doing all kinds of fundraisers to help the teams meet this goal, from Bunkos and yard sales to a Texas Road House drive-thru dinner .

They are also always mindful of the reason for Relay: Survivors and loved ones lost and finding a cure for cancer. They are currently planning their pre-event for survivors which will once again be held at Main Street Café on Saturday, April 17, from 10 a.m. until noon. This event reaches out to the cancer survivors in our community, inviting them to join the Relay event and meet other survivors. They also have the opportunity to get registered as survivors.

The next team captain meeting will be held in the Manteca High School Cafeteria on April 22 at 7 p.m. If you are interested in more information about Relay For Life, starting a new team, joining an existing team, or making a donation to the event, please contact Misty Peters at  209-456-7472 or Kathy Guinnane at 209-404-8193.
