RIPON — Local indie rock group “French Cassettes” from Ripon may finally have the break they have been waiting for.

Maybe you’ve heard them at Kelley Brothers Brewing Co.,  the Ripon Almond Blossom Festival, or the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco.

Since they formed in late 2007, they have been generating buzz and rocking clubs and venues throughout the Central Valley and San Francisco Bay Area, including taking first place in the well known Hayward Battle of the Bands in 2008. The band was recently submitted to the Artist Discovery contest sponsored by MySpace and Nokia. They are one of four finalists selected from thousands of bands nationwide. The winning artist gets a trip to L.A., professional recording studio time, and their song in a Nokia phone commercial.  Five of the six band members attended Ripon High School.

You can vote for French Cassettes at  www.myspace.com/artistdiscovery starting today. You can catch the band live on Friday, May 28, at the Copper Rhino 927 10th Street in downtown Modesto. The show starts at 9 p.m. and it is free for ages 21 and up.
