RIPON – The Ripon City Council agreed to match funds from the Intergovernmental Partnership Program, using a $10,000 donation presented last week from the Friends of the Ripon Memorial Library.

The Ripon branch of the San Joaquin County Library, in turn, will receive a total of $20,000 to help pay for books and other materials.

“This sounds like a win-win for everyone,” Councilman Charlie Gay said at the March 12 meeting.

The IPP was established over 12 years ago by the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors to promote cooperation among cities while improving the libraries. This year, the board agreed to match donations from the various cities on a dollar-for-dollar basis, budgeting $100,000.

According to Bobby Magee of the County Administrator’s Office, Ripon did not participate in the IPP for the past few years. Because of that, he added, the board was not able to match any funding for additional books and materials.

“It is my understanding that Ripon wishes to resume its participation in the IPP for 2011-12 in the amount of $10,000,”said Magee in his March 9 e-mail to the City of Ripon.

The IPP also consists of Manteca ($30,000), Lathrop ($3,600), Linden ($3,000) and Tracy ($40,000).
