Bowling for a couple hours on Saturday can help 147 Ripon students involved in free tutoring do better in school.
That’s because proceeds from the 14th annual Antone and Marie Raymus, Annual Bowl-A-Thon will benefit the free tutoring program offered through Give Every Child a Chance.
Last year, the community-based non-profit served 4,615 youth at 51 program locations in Ripon, Manteca Weston Ranch, French Camp, Banta, and Escalon. They did it with 406 volunteers age 10 through 82. Ripon one-on-one tutoring sites are Colony Oak School, Heartland Community Church, Parkview School, Ripona School, and Weston School. The After School Advantage Program takes place at Ripon Elementary School.
Of those students, 1,191 were involved in traditional one-on-one tutoring as well as the Homework Assistance Program. There were 3,048 youth involved in After School Advantage Programs at 13 school sites. Te others are in programs such as Computer Assisted Instructional Training, Employment Mentoring Program, and the Technology Outreach Program.
Just over 78 percent of the students in the program improve at least one grade level in various proficiencies such as math and language arts.
