Ripon Police arrest two auto burglary suspects near motel

Ripon Police officers arrested a couple allegedly linked to auto burglaries in the area.
Stockton residents Robert Lenton Ruiz, 45, and Elisa Marie Cabonios, 39 were charged with similar crimes including possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance and destroying or concealing evidence from police.
Ruiz was also charged with a misdemeanor vandalism warrant and driving on a suspended driver’s license, according to Ripon officers. Cabonios was also found to have a petty theft warrant outstanding for her arrest.
Ripon Police conducted a traffic stop on Ruiz’ 2003 Buick Lesabre near a Ripon motel after seeing it exit the northbound lanes of Highway 99. Lt. Steve Merchant said the vehicle’s registration had expired. The couple also had outstanding warrants through the Stockton Police Department for their arrest.  The male driver was also found to be on searchable probation. 
Both were booked into San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp.  Ruiz is being held without bail Cabonios is being held in lieu of $45,000 bail.
