RIPON – They served their community with dedication and distinction.
Last week, the Ripon City Council recognized Debra Van Essen, Stan Hall, Bert Van Dyk, Joan Azevedo, and Rena Pilotti for their years of service on their respective commissions.
They recently retired after years of service.
“Now was as a good of time as any, especially since things have slowed down quite a bit,” said Hall, who served on the Planning Commission since 2004.
Of the five, Pilotti put in the most years, working on the Senior Commission since 1988.
“I enjoyed all 22 years (on the commission) and taking part in many of the activities,” she told the Council at last Tuesday’s meeting.
Pilotti, Hall, and Van Dyk were in attendance at the session, with each receiving a proclamation for “years of service marked by exemplary and energetic participation” by Mayor Elden “Red” Nutt.
Van Dyk and Azevedo also served on the Senior Commission. Van Dyk was there since 2001 while Azevedo had six years of service.
Van Essen worked on the Planning Commission from 2004 to 2010.
For her along with Van Dyk, Azevedo, Pilotti and Hall, the proclamation, featuring the corporate seal of the City of Ripon, also served as an “appreciation for (their) commitment to in all areas of the community” through their work on their commissions.
